Ann was born in Sydney in 1970 and has always loved to paint. Her mother was a watercolour artist and her dad was an avid bushwalker. Family camping trips to the South Coast began a passion for wild adventures and vintage vans. Creating art has always been a part of her life.

Ann completed the Visual Communications at the University of Technology, Sydney, graduating with Honours. She then spent 25 years as a creative director in the publishing industry while working as an artist, painting and exhibiting in Sydney.

… to be painting while travelling is my idea of heaven. It can be a Kombi adventure into regional Australia or a spectacular trip to New Zealand. I take my painting journal where ever I go. I sit with my case of graphite, charcoal and a small palette of paints and start making marks, letting the landscape tell me what to use and how. Without overthinking what I’m seeing I record the colours and the energy of the landscape.

I take these smaller journal paintings and start to work them into larger paintings in my studio. I layer with paint and colour, working with flux, alternating layers of mark making and veiling until I sense I have reached the balance between the mood and the energy of what it felt like to be in that place…
