Artist Statement
I visited Cape Byron in December and spent some time painting the coastal bush tracks around the headland. The Bundjalung of Byron Bay (Arakwal) people camped at Palm Valley for over 1000 years, they created pathways through the coastal banksia and horsetail oak, collecting bush lollies and bush food on their way through to the beach. I collects twigs and other objects from the landscape for mark making in my work on canvas. Using automatic and rhythmic drawing I create intuitive, energetic and layered artworks that express what it felt like to be in that place.

Track to Arakwal encampment... Cape Byron
Medium: Acrylic, mixed media and charcoal on canvas
Dimensions 30cm x 30cm
